Please return this to the library asap.

Does the library fine on overdue items?

Kaipara Libraries no longer charge fines on overdue items. We are proud to be part of Fine Free Aotearoa

We ask you to consider the next person in line by returning items on time, or renewing items if you need them for longer. You can email or phone us (have your library card number handy) or get a PIN number when you are next in the library so you can renew items online yourself.

We send a letter, text or email reminder if you do have overdue items.

How many books can I borrow?

This depends on which Kaipara Library you belong to. At Dargaville Library you can borrow up to 40 items on an adult library card, and 10 if you are a visitor member. Junior members can borrow up to 10.

Can I scan or print things at the library?

We have self-service scanning and the option of colour or black and white printing. Black and white, and colour self-service photocopying services are also available at the Dargaville Library.

Dargaville, Maungaturoto, Mangawhai and Kaiwaka libraries all have 24/7 wifi available. You can still access wifi outside the buildings after hours.

Are there computers for use?

Dargaville Library has free public computers and chrome books (laptops) available during opening hours. You can use them for 30 minutes - if you need longer please ask a librarian to extend your time. Please note during peak hours this is not always possible.

I want to borrow an item but I can't find it on your catalogue?

If we don't have an item you are wanting to borrow then you may want to fill in a wishlist request or use our interloan service.

  • Interloans

Interloans are books, articles etc that we borrow from outside the Kaipara District on your behalf. Interloans cost at least $5. Some libraries may charge more than this but we would check prior to ordering with them. You can check out the Te Puna search at https://tepuna.on.worldcat.org if you would like to see what content is available from libraries around Aotearoa, New Zealand.

  • Wishlists

Wishlist requests can be made in the library or email library@kaipara.govt.nz. Wishlists are suggestions for books you would like to read. This is a free service. If we decide to order a book you will be contacted as soon as it arrives. We will not contact you if we don't order a book/s for you but you are welcome to enquire. Please note that a maximum of two wishlist per person, per month will be considered.

Why is my library card blocked?

Your library card will be blocked when you have books that have reached a "letter 3" stage (that is, you have had 3 reminders and not returned the books) Or when you owe over $10 on your library card. You will need to pay the balance owing and return any outstanding books before you will be able to borrow again.

I've lost an item, what should I do?

You will be charged the replacement cost of the item, as well as a $6 processing fee. If you find the book within 12 months of paying for it then you will receive a refund of the replacement cost as long as the book is in good condition. Please come and talk to a librarian if you are having trouble paying or are worried about this, we can arrange for you to pay this off over time.

Does it cost anything to borrow from the library?

All items are free to loan, including bestseller items, Tutu Collection items, and DVD's.

Please check with your community library for further information on fees.
